If I build something can I show it off to them for additional funding?

In ancient Greece there were many different city states with a variety of different themes central to them, have we lost this in our homogeneous world?

I can do my job, I feel like I'm stagnating. I don't work with anyone who pushes me or teaches me. I've tried to contribute to Open Source projects but struggle to get into it from a technically perspective.

Is there any resource or technique you use to technically get better?

What essential technologies should i bake in?

Data migration? Log aggregation?

I've worked in the industry for years but have never worked on every piece of a "production" microservice, i thought making one at home would be a good way.

Coming from reading a SRE job posting at Google i saw:

"Experience with algorithms and data structures and/or Unix/Linux systems internals (e.g., filesystems, system calls) and administration."

I have a good grasp of algorithms, at least to the extent that I could further my knowledge in this domain alone.

How would you suggest learning about Unix/Linux systems internals?

I was thinking of setting up a linux server and managing it, any suggestions for good places to start in regards to practical things i could do with it which would expose me to the internals?

I'm stuck at home, in Ireland I'm not allowed to go more than 5km from my house, and I'm starting to become demotivated.

I hate this so it causes anxiety, i can't focus because of the anxiety. So i work late and do all my work in the evenings, which ruins any hope of me having a normal life outside work.

How do you maintain focus or productivity levels?

I feel like you can largely teach yourself(at least bad programming) to the extent that you could pass a grad interview.

Can I just become a Chemist by watching some Khan Academy videos?
