There's a part where you have to sum yourself up in two sentences.
I guess this is supposed to be where you show your creativity but I can't help feeling that any two-sentence summary of myself is going to fall short in some way.
I'm wondering if anyone here could suggest an approach.
I assume there's a chance that a competitor could buy these and take some traffic from mispellings, etc.
But if you don't know how successful your app is going to be, this can be a lot of upfront expense.
Was there a vote?
Who decided this?
How did they make that decision?
Here's my thought and tell me if this crazy.
Google is, by some accounts, a well funded company which is likely to be around for a few years to come.
They also happen to provide free code hosting for open source projects.
You see where I'm going with this? Yeah, why not host Ruby gems on Google Code!? Crazy? Please tell me why. Thanks.
Gemcutter seems to have displaced Github as the gem host of choice these days. That's not a plug - I have no dog in this fight.
But I am wondering how reliable they will be over the long term since I don't see much evidence of a business plan. They prominently display the Heroku and ThoughtBot logos on the main page.
But there must be more to their business model than simple sponsorship?
Or it simply not very expensive to host all of the world's gems?
