Ask HN: Can/Should the Internet Association go on strike vs. Verizon?
In the wake of the Netflix ruling today, I'm wondering if it's possible for the companies that make up the Internet Association (Google, Facebook, Yahoo, etc.) to solve the problem on their own by refusing requests from ISPs that don't abide by the basic rules of net neutrality until they agree to change their policies.
Redirecting all requests for a day worked well to raise awareness about SOPA. If there are enough companies willing to sign on, each responding to hits from the offending ISP with "You can't use our site, and it's your provider's fault," I think they'd have the upper hand.
The equivalent has been done by individual cable channels when feuding with providers like Comcast and DirecTV, so it's not without precedent, and it seems like it would work.
Or am I crazy?
