While I do have the support of advisor, and in general know the bigger research direction, coming up with a relevant doable+innovative research problem is still somewhat upon me and hard. I wanted to read on other researchers' perspective on how they do it, what works and what doesn't. Thanks!

Find customers before building is a popular tactic in B2B SaaS where you conduct user interviews before even building the MVP. I think that works well because business people are used to getting cold calls/meetings. But what about B2C ideas? How do you conduct interviews? Are non-business people used to getting sales call? Or is there a better way for a software that costs say $30/yr?

I am thinking of a product many businesses would find it useful but my only concern is that the product revolves around sensitive documents(like lawyer's documents but can be extended to other industries too). The product is already built by many companies but I have found a unique angle that I think would benefit my users. I am not a team and I don't know how to handle laws of sensitive documents as a business entity(and those documents might live on AWS S3/similar services).

I have liked some pages in Instagram and Facebook where they share philosophy/science related bytes and clips. They do take the clips out of Youtube videos but it helps me know if the whole video is worth watching since they cut out the best parts. There's a philosopher called Alan Watts I usually listen to and there was this video of him some saying stuffs. I hadn't checked the comments but there seemed something off, like it felt something not Watts-like. After a week, I decide to go through one of the video's comments and people were mentioning how they hated AI generated voice. Then it clicked. I had been listening to AI-generated Alan Watts voice. It icked me. Anything AI generated icks me, not sure why.

This scared me. Because I could tell from the comments that lots of people were fooled. And if, me, who has been listening to Watts for so long cannot tell the voice after a week, I am worried that someday Youtube search results will start pushing the AI generated Watts videos to the top. And how much do I dig to find real stuff? And who's to say one can tell the difference?

I was not a big data hoarder. I hoard only series, music, and songs I really like but these past days I have been considering hoarding seriously.

I am looking to create desktop app for one of my projects(The project is a video-creator app for musicians- https://vinlo.co ). The reason being I feel somethings are just not for the web. It takes a lot of time to perform FFMPEG operations on web. I want users to have a seamless experience and web is limiting in that sense.

I am well-versed in web tech, C++, Python. I have done my research and here's what I arrived at. I would love it if HN people weighed in.

Mac: Users are used to paying for apps. Swift looks good. But very low market share compared to Windows.

Windows: Too many ways of doing things and too much options(C# WPF, Winforms).

Cross-platform(This would be best for me): Electron/Tauri/Wxwidgets/Qt. Electron is a whole browser. Tauri uses the default web view but that means I'll have to configure for every platforms. And also Tauri is not great with documentation. I am weighing between wxwidgets and QT but QT needs a commercial license which is pretty expensive. Wxwidgets is at least native. But looks almost dead?

I would appreciate any personal opinions. Thanks!
