Hi EMs, There are thousands of resources to become a better IC Engineer in any programming language. As a engineering leader, I am curious what tools and resource have you found useful for better managing engineering teams/org.

Recently, I have been interviewing for senior leadership roles at mid-size/large companies. I am currently a VP but I do not manage a very large team.

The feedback I usually get is: although I excelled in the skills required for the job, I lacked executive presence & gravitas. I have a little bit of impostor syndrome and English is not my first language although I am pretty good at it. I am not sure how to improve my chances or in general get better with gravitas/executive presence. Would appreciate any resources/ideas.

I am a bit bored with the data science field. Main reasons being slower pace, usually late/optional hires at startups, lack of understanding of value in bigger orgs, career ceiling after Director/VP level. At mid/later stage career, is switching to product, engineering, etc a good option? Anyone who has done it and is willing to share tips?

We are building a startup which deals with user's health data record or EHR.The value proposition to the end user is lower price, better health management for chronic issues. We do not plan on using the data for ads or share it with any other partner.

For a small startup, how can we win the trust of our customers and pursue them to share EHR for their benefit?

At a lot of companies, the data science group is still analyzing data and providing support for business decisions. Do you have examples of projects in your workplace/industry where ML/AI has a big impact?

If you skip 2 or 3 levels and end up in a position in which you have to lead and manage people more experienced or smarter than yourself while also managing a ton of projects and priorities. How should one prepare? I believe a lot of founders of somewhat successful companies had to do it. I am curious on how people successfully do this.

Hi HN, After working at few successfully companies, if one wants to offer advising services to startups (part-time), how does one go about that? Are these roles only available to members of VC or Accelerator Firms?

Most AI groups that I find are from ACM/ IEEE etc. I work in industry and I do not have much research background but I am looking to join few groups or volunteer in a committee that entertains non-researchers AI practitioners? Are there any such groups?

I work as an engineer in machine learning/big data field. Its not part of my day job but I wanted to get started with publishing research papers. A research portfolio will help me with job, learning, immigration and higher studies.

There is no one I can find to pair with. I am willing to do a lot of engineering work, data work but I have no experience when it comes to writing and publishing papers. A lot of papers from ICML and NIPS are beyond my understanding even though I can easily implement classification, regression, etc.

Is there a platform or community that could be of help?

I really wish to work with some VC firms and Startups to offer my expertise for free and just getting more involved with them. I am not really sure how to approach them or do they even need such help.

I do not wish to charge any money but instead just want to be more involved with the community. (I currently work as a data scientist/engineer by profession.)

Has anyone here tried such thing before?

Its funny that there are so many blogging platforms our there but I (and some people I talked to) still feel that there is no one place that fits all their blogging needs.

One key fact I believe is they are all too concentrated in making one platform and imposing it on all topics while the fact is that different bloggers have completely different need?

If you guys can share your thought on what you think should be a feature of a blogging platform? And do you think there is a need for a new one now?

Following the horrible incidents I was wondering if we can build a model with gun purchase data and some other data sources like social, etc ?

I felt this would be a great Q&A to identify some bad tools. To start with, really have been disliking hipchat a lot. Have to use it as a company stickiness to Altassian.

Essentially trying to efficiently organize : - ecommerce marekting promotions - email newsletters - dev list, etc (if you are an open source contributor) - social notification emails
