I am looking for any open source project that gives users a good range of options to make their own analysis of structured data (sales, fiancials, etc.). Sort of like excel, but web based and able to connect to databases to pull data. Mostly I am thinking of giving users the tools to make web based plots, tables, pivot tables, with data from multiple sources (OLAP, external data, submitted data from foreign entities, etc.).

If there is not, I was thinking to start building it. I also was wondering if there is some market potential in this concept.

After reading HN for the last 6 months, I built by first landing page (and website) and it is here: sourcingzen.com. Web development is not my job, I work in finance, but I have been using python for a while for different things now. As this is all new to me, I would like to receive some honest feedback on the techical and non technical side of my landing page.

I am considering contacting some linkedin groups* to get the first beta users. If I see enough interest, I will build the application.

*if you have other options to market the landing page, please tell.

I'd like to know why big companies job boards are so broken. Every time I try to apply for a job I have to:

1) Waste 1 hr inserting information that is already on my curriculum. 2) Fight with the website that is usually broken at some level or counter intuitive.

Is somebody working on this? Is there a sane way to apply for a job in a big corp?

due to unexpected vacations (thanks German bureaucracy), I will be free from tomorrow until the 22nd.

I would like to use this time to hack on a cool project. Maybe something that could go on my github page.

I ask here because I would like to "work" for someone that is in business. So that I can get some feedback and mentorship. I don't have the chance to talk to programmers and people in start ups in my daily life. I thought this might be a chance.
