Let's define creativity as "ability to link disparate ideas into novel structures + the energy and enthusiasm to do so."
Already found useful:
- learning to play music (piano) intuitively, without notes, trying things and keeping what sounds good
- spending a lot of time with different people and connecting with them deeply. our neocortex develops when we have many social relationships to keep track of and multiple different perspectives to integrate
- sex parties (fav: https://snctmmoscow.com/). got rid of shyness, realized i can just play with other people, have fun together. i expected it to just be a fun way to get off. turned out sexuality is a very powerful and useful energy – for business, new ideas etc
- psychedelics. classic way to disrupt old patterns, rethink and realize nothing is set in stone
- building things together with others. burning man camp, co-living communities etc
- learning new things all the time. i started a very science-heavy company and it forced me to learn things like organic chemistry from scratch. every new thing becomes a building block for creating analogies, makes it easier to learn all other things
- psychotherapy, meditation. removing blocks and existing behaviors, building self-awareness
- traveling all the time. i'm a nomad and not tying to one place feels very powerful
- learning to notice and love body sensations. this is new to me and i can't explain it
- writing, teaching, explaining things to others
Haven't tested yet:
- learning very different languages
- kinesthetics, learning body-in-space things like fighting, dancing, trampoline etc
- having children – people are describing this as creativity through observing how someone else learns to think
what have you found that was powerful to develop new ways of thinking?
