The largest tech companies appear to be localized in the US, specifically the Bay Area and Washington.

Why haven't foreign tech companies achieved the same global market penetration and saturation as US-based firms?

Examples like Samsung, Spotify, HTC, Sony, Baidu don't seem to have the same market cap nor breadth or global reach of a Google, Apple, Amazon or Microsoft.

But those countries do have talented engineers and funds to succeed. So what's stopping them?

How many hours (on average) does it take you to complete a technical or mathematical book?

(I feel that "days" would be too coarse a measurement)

Does that include completing all the exercises/programming assignments?

If not, do you feel that your understanding is lessened?

And if you were to do the exercises, how much more time would that add?

For a given algorithm, I find myself placing debug logs all over to print values of variables.

I even find this quicker than using breakpoints.
