I need to hire a linux dev server so that I have a consistent setup although I might need to use multiple machines for my personal project - I know there is plenty cloud solution like Digital Ocean but I am concern about whether their spec is being too low - it should really faster than my Macbook. is there any affordable but efficient solution out there? thanks

basically we are company that link between service provider and consumer, we take deposit (15% of full amount) from consumer (paid by credit card) and if the deal is done, consumer pay the remaining fund and we take a spread ultimately pay the rest to the service provider. so there is a lot of transactions, what is the best (cost-effective) solution available to startup? or is there a smarter work around?

Note - in the worst case scenario, about half of the deals cannot be done - i.e. we will have to refund the deposit to the customer

I know all the cloud big names e.g. aws/azure provide managed SQL or noSQL service so that their VM user can access the database with relatively low latency although they are not necessarily be running on the exact same machine (but at least there is option we can host in the same data centre). But how are those DigitalOcean/Linode users hosting their database? it is possible we can run mysql etc the VM directly (i.e. we manage them ourselves) but their VM instances probably wont always be powerful enough to host a database? or we are typically running a lot of replicated instances to balance the load? cheers

just out of interest, I know that Elixir is kind of bringing in a lot of 'nice Ruby features' to the language, but how does the Erlang's opinion on this? what is the main reason stopping you moving to Elixir for new project if it is not worse than Erlang? thanks

I know golang is getting a lot of hype (with nice features) and it is growing fast but I fear the pros of using golang in a startup might be as obvious as using a much more mature languages like c# in a well supported .net framework and azure eco-system? in particular (I assume) it is much easier to find .Net developers when you need to grow the team?

if we can, lets please assume we know c# as well as golang (and other languages will not be considered). thanks
