I came through this awesome site useronboard.com which does a teardown of how different services onboarded different users.

Is there a similar site, which does a teardown of features of webapps or SaaS Apps?

I was I was introduced to a mentor, by my accelerator folks. I approached him for some sales lessons. The mentor turned out to be an asshole(I did not like him, the way he talked about stuff, and his approach to things in general. We had different approach, he was a street smart guy, and I have a far more academic approach to things). We had a minor, texting, where he went on to boast he earns 200 USD/hr and all, I did not like it. Said "Thank You, I have found better mentors who talk less BS and make more sense, been there done that kind of folks. Thanks for your time. Appreciate."

He went on to complain, to the accelerator folks. Now those guys, want me to patch things up. Because that mentor is an investor. And they do not want to ruin the relations of the organization with him.

The mentor has taken it on his ego. I have been told to manage this shit. I thought of sending an email. They say, come with something better. I don't know what, any suggestions?

Google for Python and the title is - Python is a programming language.

But if I understand correctly, it is a scripting language.

So I bumped into this doubt - is python a programming or a scripting language?

Then there are things like new relic(which appears too complex to me)

I am a new sysadmin, and do not have much experience, though I have googled and read stuff, and done the homework.

I just wanted to ask folks over here, as to what services they use for monitoring their different servers, and what led them to their respective choices?

I started on my own. I have been sleeping over my startup for the past 9 months. The first 3 months went into reading about lean startup, and learning about it. Next customer interviews, and prototype, then full fleged product, then iterated after few more customer interviews. It all took around 7 months.

Assembled a team on equity, they both did not agree together, one told me to get rid of the the other, having done that, the other felt insecure and left. Today after 9 months I am alone the product is sort of a classified(but much more than that).

Marketing is a big challenge. The product is ready, what should I do with it, it is a consumer application??

I want to earn some money for living.

Big Data is booming, and I want to strike the rod while it is hot. Just want to make some money, doing low end consultancy.

I have 2 years of professional python development experience, and freelancing with django/flask.

Big Data will fetch more $s per hour. So I want to shift to big data. Could someone please throw in pointers, as to where should I start, so that at the end of say 2 months, I start doing some low end freelancing on big data plucking some low hanging fruits.

I am not looking for shortcuts, but then I do not want to be researcher. My goals are simple, learn which shall be able to fetch me revenue.

Let me know what and how much, and I shall put in efforts.

It will be good of people to tell me the areas I should focus on, maybe start off with a problem itself, and learn whatever it takes to solve the problem, thus acquiring the skillsets, and using those to charge clients.

I am trying out a small experiment. Adding features to classifieds, and taking care of several things. The revenue model that every other listing site does is

1. Paid Listing

2. Ads.

The doubt I had was, do folks at HN think is it a good idea to start of with Ads as the primary revenue stream.

If people can throw in some pointers around what else would be a good approach, it will be helpful for me to think about it.

I am a solo tech founder. I am trying to bootstrap my own startup. Its basically a c2c hyper-local business. I have finished coding the entire app, and have asked few friends to beta test it. Modifying on what they are suggesting.

Tools I am using for gathering metrics : Google Analytics and Mixpanel free. Any other suggestion will be helpful.

I spent past week learning minimal SEO and have structured the html and other things are in place.

The next thing which comes is launch, for that I need to have social media and email marketing in place. I went through kissmetrics blog.

The first step in starting a startup is doing the customer interview, getting to know the customers thoughts.

One thing that is concerning me and I am kind of insecure about as of now is "Hinting the idea to so many people at the same time." As from experience "what can be copied, will be copied" So I am slightly concerned about it and wanted to know your thoughts.

Actually people whom I encountered 2-3 weeks ago, they wanted to speak my mind out and I later realized their ulterior motives(probably its too naive a question, but it happened and I am not sure how to tackle it) thankfully I did not speak stuff out there. What are your thoughts on it? How do I decide on how much open to be?

Asking for advice. Its my first time. I am going to incubators and VCs to show/pitch my prototype.<p>One of them whom I am approaching is kind of a new incubator itself, and have promised to help me use their client and will do the sales stuff for me. Is it okay if I mention to them, that I am going to other incubators as well?

I don't have a co-founder and am doing all stuff alone. From equity POV and other challenges, general advice? What not to do?

I don't have any ex in pitching. I have worked hard on documenting and simplifying "what my app does and what it is" (as in x of y, eg. yellow pages of newspapers etc.) Just that, I am not sure of revenue and did not put any imaginary number.
