The past few months I've been seeing a trend in websites. And that trend is to display a popup (or two) asking users to become a member, take a survey, like them on facebook, twitter, etc.

It's happening on so many websites that it almost seems like a conspiracy. Are you web developers doing this on purpose? Is there some kind of group think going on that we need to be aware of? And lastly, can you please stop the madness?

I recently put Hacker News back into my google reader and now I'm seeing about 150 posts a day. There are a lot of really excellent conversations, links, content, etc., but I simply don't have the time to look at it all.

Is there a way to get an rss feed to the highest rated posts or do you have another suggestion on dealing with TMI from HN?

I am trying to make a decision on whether to pursue c++ or iPhone programming. I have been a contractor for 12 years working mostly in corporate microsoft shops doing 3-tier programming. In today's environment, I want to gain a more competitive edge so I'm trying to figure out how best to improve my skill set. I like c++ because it is in high demand and it is the language that separates the men from the boys. I like iPhone because cell phone programming is going to be a large part of the wave of the future. As far as "following my passion," both are equally exciting to me, but I need to fully commit to one or the other at this point in time. What are your thoughts on this?
