Dearth of original ideas, lots of pointless retro stuff like "I did x on mac os classic" lots of reinventing the wheel with LLMs and LLM cargo culting. What is the perpetual growth myth to do once physics is known and energy is constraining?
I don't know if it is the cynicism of aging or the zeitgeist but essentially every single news item I see on or off HN is either fake, misinterpreted, mispresented, unimportant, irrelavant or uninteresting. Look at the front page of HN on any given time in recent years. 50% are about unmonetizable, over hyped AI, 30% are some kind of nostalgic retrocomputing or enthusiast project. Maybe 1-5% are actually ideas that could drive economic growth. Hypothesis: the seeking of moats and extractive niches rather than competitive fitness killed innovation in tech, together with mature physics.
Recently in the past month or so gemini on my android has been engaing in the user hostile behavior of allowing prompt entry then when I press send the prompt disappears and the app minimizes. I can reopen the app and continue the same chat. The bug happens without warning. The fact I can continue the same chat indicates it is not a quota. Is this intentional behavior by google? if so it is really user hostile and annoying. if a user is hitting a soft limit then warn an store what they typed. don't send the prompt they spent minutes typing oit to /dev/null with no warning. if it is not intentional behavior it is a bug. the app can store my prompt locally or enque without destroying what I wrote while and closing the app while nonsensically allowing me to open the app imediated after the loss and enter the same prompt in the same chat and get a reponse. what is this this stochastic input destruction?
