Ask HN: High-level math, useful?
Things like topology and abstract algebra, does it teach you anything that is actually applicable in electrical engineering? Does it evolve your abstract thinking skills which could make you a better engineer?

However is California all it seems to be? I think constant sunshine, wealthy, surfing, skiing, climbing. I could live an active outdoor life there.
But then there is perhaps high house prices and apartments, overpopulation, pollution(?), crime etc.
Is Colorado(Denver, Boulder, Colorado springs) better?
How is the USA overall? Is Europe better? I don't like the stupid socialist attitude of pretty much all european governments, on the other hand I don't dig US foreign politics much either(I'm fairly libertarian).
I want to get into it but I'm not sure what to study, Elec. eng., mech. eng., etc.
Are the health programs out there good enough? What is missing in them? This must be a huge market but it might be already taken? I mean how many millions in the world are overweight? And those 2.5 billion indians or chinese will soon start to be...
I have googled some but haven't found anything...there must be right?
I would be interested in energy or civil engineering but the jobs I don't think would be as much fun as hacking, it is just that I have a hard time finding meaningful areas in computer science. I think Facebook for example is just useless crap that I have to waste time on now because everybody else is on there.
Some areas in CS that interest me: Robotics - automate boring jobs Image analysis - medical imaging Datamining the human genome etc
I don't find internet stuff to meaningful.
How are the chances of landing these types of jobs, are there a lot of them?
