Hi! About 4 months ago I got my first tech related job as a software developer at a company that makes BI software. I don't think this situation is the best fit for me. In my spare time I've been studying Haskell, but (with much regret) I'm considering switching to a more widely used language to increase my job prospects.

Some more details: -I live about 50 minutes from NYC. -I'm strongest with Java and don't have much proficiency with anything else

I'm looking for advice. What should I study if I want to increase my marketability JS/RoR/PHP/??

A few months ago I bought an Arduino MEGA 2560 and NooElec SDR to be used in a High Altitude Balloon. The project never got off the ground and it's been sitting in my drawer collecting dust.

I'd like to see someone put it to good use. Anyone interested in it?

What would happen if donations were made social?

I've been thinking about a crowdfunding music site based on this principal.

-Artists would post their music for free -Anytime a User downloaded/streamed music it would get tracked on their profile -Users would be able to donate money to an Artist and donations would be tracked on their profile -Users would have the ability to enable/disable advertisements. The revenue from advertisements would count towards Artist donations -Users would be awarded "badges" based on donations -Users would have a direct line of communication with the Artist via some social community -Venues would be able to see which Artists in their area were receiving the most donations and contract the Artists for shows.

There's a sense of "discovering" an artist that I think would be amplified because Users would have a record of who contributed to Artists before they became famous. Users would have more of an impact on which direction the music they like moved in.

It's a really rough brain sketch. Thoughts?

I graduated from university last spring with a B.A. in computer science. I am currently working at a software company. I would like to attend a top graduate school in 2-3 years once I am more certain of my area of study. I'm not sure what steps I should take to achieve this. I was not passionate about CS until my final year of university so I haven't completed any research/internships. Could anyone with experience point me in the right direction?

I feel that I have more trouble than I should writing method comments and commit messages. Can anyone point me to some projects with great comments /commits?

Lately I've been thinking about the legal ramifications of hosting encrypted copyrighted data.

If person X encrypts a copyrighted file with some algorithm/key, posts this encrypted file on hosting site A, and then shares the algorithm/key what would be the legal ramifications to hosting site A?

The hosting site could claim ignorance and saying that they are not hosting copyrighted data. In response the owner of the copyrighted data could show that through a series of transformations the data is the copyrighted data. That being said, can't any data be "transformed" to be that same copyrighted file?
