I mean literally - a joy to use. It's not just that the product is useful, or that it makes you more productive, or that you appreciate that it's well-designed. There's just something about it that, when you use it, it gives you an overwhelming sense of satisfaction.

It could be a digital or tangible product, large or small.

I've been working in the tech startup scene for the past few years and have come to love the work and the community. I'm actively engaged at work and enjoy working on side projects and doing reading/research with my free time. It's come to be a hobby for me and the lines between work and play are becoming less easy to distinguish. I'm not troubled by this, but it has affected some of my personal relationships - some for the better, some for the worse. Most notably, for the worse with my significant other who is not at all interested in the tech scene.

I'm curious about how common this is in the HN community and how others may be coping with this situation. On the one hand, it would be nice to be able to have at least casual conversations about what I'm working on, why I find it interesting, why it might matter to someone not directly involved with the technology, etc. On the other, I can see the merit in completely disengaging from the tech mindset and engaging on a completely different level while at home with family.

Genuinely curious about this. Just to be clear - I'm referring to the autoplaying of videos on services like Netflix, Amazon Video, Udemy, and YouTube, as well as news sites and sports sites.

As a user, there are very few situations I can conceive of where autoplaying of videos would be useful/desired. Even if I was in such a situation, I would much prefer the option to toggle autoplay on and off myself as needed.

Anyone out there genuinely like these default autoplaying settings? If so, why?

Where do you get your information for comparative reviews and/or recommendations of tech/gadgets?

In the sense I'm using, gadgets include anything from phones to 3D printers to TVs to smart refrigerators - so long as they have some "smart" or programmable aspect to them.
