We have a spring boot app and have always used logback access logging, but logback no longer plays nice with Jetty and the timeline for when that will be fixed is unclear.

What do people use for java/spring boot apps for this and do you like it?

I have a coworker who really harps on functional programming. To me the block of .map(x).ifelseget().etc() is so much harder to read than defining and mutating variables, if/switch statements, and loops. Also, if you get a stack trace, the line number doesn't really tell you much if you are doing 4 things on a single line.

I have always wondered this since I have been confronted with it, but in an interview recently I was given a light docking for not using functional programming. Why is it better?

I know my manager is going to push a cert as part of my goals again this year. Last year I did AWS Certified Solutions Architect and got a lot out of what I learned.

Criteria for "mean something" are: 1. Learning helpful things 2. Meaningful on a resume

I have observed that most companies don't offer their leave benefits until you have a year of service at the company. Also, companies don't really advertise the specifics of their policies publicly.

What are some companies that offer leave before you hit that year tenure for both maternity and paternity?

I want to be able to test a messaging application by sending and receiving MMS and SMS from carriers (ATT, TMO, VZN) regularly throughout the day. So far I have encountered different problems with different solutions.

1.Building an android app that sends and receives messages and a server that checks the status of everything and reports it. Problem: Eventually the batteries expand on the phones and I cant find any modern phones that can run w/o a battery

2. Using https://smseagle.eu/store/en/devices/28-smseagle-nxs-9700-4g.html. Problem: The product is awful and support is worse. They use https://github.com/gammu/gammu which no longer has a maintainer so they sorta kinda maintain it. I don't have the resources to volunteer to be the maintainer and put it on my own hardware.

3. Use twillio. Problem: Not only is this expensive, but it doesn't test what I really want. I want to test sending and receiving from the actual telecom biggies.

Any suggestions? I am getting desperate enough to consider soldering something into a phone to trick it that it has a battery and want to know if there is a better way before I dig that deep.
