I'm marking up a page right now, have a list of Twitter users to link to and am debating the use of target="_blank" without an explicit "new tab/window" icon.

I personally have no use for this anymore. If I am browsing a webpage and I want the link to open in a new tab I will do it myself, otherwise I expect it to open in the same tab.

How do others feel about this?

I know a lot of cats on HN are pretty educated on a whole range of topics. I live in Tokyo, and have come to realize I know next to nothing about how this could play out. Throwing it out there for anyone that has the education to answer and has been following the latest reports.

The last 2 bookmarks/apps in that screenshot were not installed through the Chrome Webstore. They just showed up suddenly - is there a js hack to add these bookmarks by visiting a site/ad?
