Ask HN: How do you create a sample DB from your LIVE DB?
Our LIVE database is too large to be running on our dev machines, but we do need good data sample to test & develop on.
Does anyone know of a good solution to this problem?
I have many years of experience building websites & applications, using Python, Django, PHP & Javascript on a variety of different platforms & databases.
In my free time I like to play with new & shiny technologies like CoffeeScript, Backbone.js, Node.js, Google App Engine and many others.

Does anyone know of a good solution to this problem?
So my options are:
1. sell it.
2. cancel it.
3. come up with something cool, that would fit the domainname.
I really like option 3, so what kind of website would you hope to see when visiting geektrail.com?
On the one hand I feel like it's an enormous echo-chamber of re-tweets and mundane status updates.
On the other hand I feel like you can gather a lot of useful information in a compact way. It also seems to be a low-barrier way to connect with a lot of other people in your field, which might come in handy one day career-wise.
