I remember reading some blogpost about "company lifecycle" and engineers, probably featured on HN. I can't find it now. Perhaps some of you will guess what I'm talking about?

It described heuristic of a sort: when some new shiny manager gets hired and decides to remove vending machine with free coke, because it will save the company so much money, it's time for engineers to leave.

I contained more wisdom, but that one stuck in my head in particular.
