I'm currently on the job market, and one of the things on my mind is I'd like to pick a company that may survive the next economic collapse. All signs seem to point to an upcoming large correction to this bubble economy, and I'd hate to be laid off because of it.

Does anybody consider how "recession proof" their job may be? Any thoughts on what industries to look towards for better job security? Obviously a lot of startups and investor backed companies are probably not a safe bet.

So I'm at a crossroads. I just moved to a smaller city, about 50 miles from the nearest large population center. I still have a job in said population center making 110k. This results in a commute of about an hour

The problem is, if I take a job locally, I'm looking at a pay cut of 10-15k.

I really can't judge if that's worth it or not. I've done long commutes before and there are pluses and minuses of course. But I really am struggling to decide on what's the better choice: more money, or more time...

So all my adult life I've had this dream of starting a "multi-media" business. That is, a company that does web, photo, video, or anything else visual.

The thing is, at best I'm an expert in web and photo. But I am far from being capable of being the one man show of a multi-media company.

But I have vision, and faith in my ability to find and contract with talent who can do the work effectively.

Do founders of companies have to be experts in everything their company aspires to do? Or is it possible to get by on just having the vision, and finding others who are experts at actualizing it?

I'm sure all developers get them. I get multiple ones per day: Emails about a contract job for 6 months in some far off town I'll never wanna live. Usually the "recruiters" name is Indian in origin, and is obviously from an outsourced recruiting farm. And this is in addition to countless calls as well.

It seems almost as if I need a "racist" spam filter that'll filter out these emails based on names, since that is the most common thread.

Has anyone found a good solution for this in Gmail at all?
