Aside from checking job boards and checking the "Careers" pages of companies you think might have an opening, what are some creative ways to find a job online?
I'm tempted to attempt banner advertising, for instance, so the jobs come to her, although I'm sure there are cleverer approaches I haven't considered.
My partner — a native Japanese speaker and actively working translator — and I want to translate a handful of iOS applications from English into Japanese for free.
Why?
Well, we're hoping to snag a few testimonials, smooth out any snags in the process (although my partner has translated multiple apps already), and also be able to say on our website, "These are some of the apps we've translated..."
Here's the catch:
* We're a two-person team, so we can't handle a lot of volume. (The exact amount will depend on the complexity of the apps that people send us.)
* There's no hard limits on the amount of words we'll translate, but we probably won't accept apps that have thousands upon thousands of words (like games with a lot of dialogue).
But for those who we do accept, the translation will be done with a lot of care (which is important, since Japanese is a highly contextual language) and, since Japan has one of the fastest growing App Stores, we're hoping you'll also see an uptick in sales.
To take us up on this offer, send an email to hello@davidturnbull.com. We'll get back to you within 24 hours if you're selected.
Regards,
David Turnbull, iostranslate.com
Are there start-ups that are looking for a translator with that skill? Like, would it would be worth getting it touch with people and seeing if they'd like their user interface translated into Japanese?
She has the usual options — translating articles, eBooks, etc — but I'm trying to help her branch out into other options.
Any help/opinions would be appreciated. :)
I'm stuck in Europe after an eight-month backpacking trip and don't have enough money to get home. As such, I'm looking to do client work over the next week or so.
I'm very experienced with coding WordPress themes, so I'll do that for just $150. Just send me the (coded) design and it'll be integrated with WordPress within a week. You pay once it's done.
Drop me an email at realdavidturnbull@gmail.com
If I find three clients, I can head home.
I'm in Europe at the moment after an eight-month backpacking trip and some good ol' fashioned mismanaging of my money has left me a little too broke to head home.
I can just hang out in some cheap accommodation for the next month until I get paid again, but as incredible as my trip has been, there are really some things I should sort out at home (I'd also have to survive the next month on very little food and activity).
As such, I'm offering the following services:
* Take a PSD and convert it to responsive code (using Foundation): $200.
Or, the ultimately better deal:
* Take a PSD and convert it to responsive code (using Foundation), then integrate it with WordPress: $300.
I usually don't do client work, so I don't have a portfolio prepared. The only thing I have online at the moment is http://paintsaw.com/. It's running on Jekyll, rather than WordPress though.
As such, you can pay after the work has been completed (but before I send over the code).
You can get touch with me via email — realdavidturnbull@gmail.com — or on Twitter: @dturnbull.
Thanks. :)
How would I find a writing gig within a start-up?
I'm familiar with some of the job-seeking sites focused on start-ups but, understandably, most of the jobs are focused on engineering and I'm finding it difficult to wade through all the listings.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
