I'm a freelance developer spending September in Buenos Aires and would love to meet other hackers from the local tech community. I travel a lot and consult for clients all over the place so I'd love to get in contact with anyone looking for CTO-style architecture work, or just doing something interesting to discuss over a beer.

My fiance and I run a small consulting business; I'm a generalist programmer currently specializing in Django and AngularJS development and she is a copywriter and social media specialist. We are traveling Asia for a number of months, working, making connections, and vacationing. We're currently halfway through Japan and the rest of our few months is flexible.

We have traveled a lot in the past couple of years. I speak decent Mandarin and we'll definitely hit Shanghai, but I'd love opportunities to meet other hackers for anything from additional consulting/freelancing work, to an opportunity to buy you a beer and discover a good meal.

The CSS Zen Garden book seems to have been a defacto read, but it's published in 2005. Is it still relevant? Other suggestions?

I'm in the SF area and would love suggestions for somebody who can competently consult on things such as s-corp vs. llc fillings, write-offs due to travel, etc. I have a two person freelance consulting group.

xcomglobal makes an expensive but really neat product for traveling abroad to more exotic locales, but what are your favorite choices for local use as well as international? I'm looking for a cheap option for major U.S. cities and perhaps Canada/Mexico as well. I'm intrigued by the clearcut payments of yourkarma.com.

Smaller data packages are fine; this is mostly for dev while traveling.

A prospective client says that it is against their company policy to pay up front for anything and that they "always pay on time". Given that they haven't been particularly responsive in our email back and forths, does this strike any of the more experienced freelancers out there as a red light? What are your policies for upfront payments on hourly contracts? If you require them, what kind of percentage?

Open ended discussion question! My girlfriend and I are SF based but looking to spend a few months traveling, starting around March. She's a writer/blogger/social media manager and I'm a freelance developer.

I'd love suggestions from the community for places to head to. Considerations are cost, safety/health, food, weather, interesting experiences, local dev community / ease of finding cafes to work out of. Would be fun to learn to surf/kiteboard while traveling. I figure that I'll aim for 2-3 days a week of client work to support us (which I already have). She'd like to pick up some work here and there as well. We'd like to see a few different places during our trip, but want to spend a few weeks in at least one of the locations. We're less interested in backpacking / changing locations nightly and more interested in the experiences of getting to live abroad.

I speak some Chinese and would love to return to there. She speaks some French. I also have family in Brazil. Current considerations:

Buenos Aires, Santiago, Shanghai, Tokyo, Chengdu

I'm upgrading machines and doing some housecleaning. My code goes in Github, my files go into Dropbox... but how about my music/movies/pictures? I don't have a huge library; on the scale of 100-200gb. What is everyone's preferred storage method? I was just about to setup a NAS drive or time capsule but then started to consider whether I'm not just better off with just a bigger Dropbox account or Google Drive, etc. Do people find it worth it to store everything on a cloud server? Thanks!
