Very interested to hear of ways to track your spending without providing access to a 3rd party service, but that are also more sophisticated than manually typing it in excel.

My department is transitioning to be full remote and before I dig into it with my boss I wanted to know what potential problems I might face with my company when asking them to let me work for a month+ at a time from another country.

I plan on maintaining normal hours and my mailing address won't change. My bigger concern is if there are legal issues. My company deals with sensitive data and has some compliance procedures that I need to investigate separately.

Interested to hear stories from software engineers who changed profession and then went back to software engineering.

What is the current career value of being, at least, bilingual in the states for tech companies. Is there any data/evidence to suggest for certain positions it is/is not worth learning another language? If it is beneficial, are there specific languages that rank higher than the rest? Are they associated with specific positions?

tl;dr - Will knowing a language other than English help me find a tech job?

Aside: I believe everyone should know, at the minimum, two languages.

I've worked in software development for a few years now and want to start my own business. I have an idea, a website/service, that I am building offline currently. When I put it under a domain I would like to have all the business parts figured out. Does that even matter?

What advice can you give me from you own experience and knowledge on how to smoothly create a small business for an online company, that for the foreseeable future will have 1 employee.

I've heard that I should start an LLC for myself and use that to create the online business.

I don't expect to make any money in 2017 - but it's always a possibility.

Are there any projects out there that attempt to use Machine Learning (other technologies welcome too) to create a summary of given content?

Specifically, I am thinking in terms of reading comprehension. A list of prompts given with content and the expectation is the computer answers the prompts based on the content provided. But a project that attempts to summarize/parse content would be awesome.

My primary goal is to gain a better understanding of why people study the quantum field.

I am interested in understanding how quantum process happen. My understanding at this point is that they are simultaneous (not sure if correct but its definitely next to nothing). My math background is decent (aka I will try to understand any answer you throw at me). Links, books, comments, and anything else you have to offer is welcome. Thanks

Why? What make a fast developer? Is it rarely having to learn new things? Is it learning a new technology before other people on a team? How do you measure your speed as a developer?

This concept has been bothering me lately. I've been working on a project for a few weeks and part of it took me a lot of trial and error(a week) to find a solution that took me 5 minutes to write. Did I waste that week?

What part of the writing a new app/program gives you the most grief? That is what is the hardest part for you to overcome? Does it depend on the size of the project? Are small projects hard to start but easy to finish? Large projects easy to start but hard to finish? I'm a young developer and find that getting started - the discovery process - is where I have to battle ennui. Things are still too abstract at this point and its easier for the mind to wander. But, once I get started writing code the process becomes much more enjoyable.
