I'm a full time user of Lastpass, the free or paid online cloud based password manager.

But in the light of recent revelations involving various government backdoors in popular sites, I'm beginning to wonder if such services can be trusted.

I'm not an expert but I'd seriously want to hear the opinion & advice of HN users.

So...I have nothing against this site...in fact I love it so much that I unconsciously browse this site even when I should be working.

So to keep the distractions at bay I have added entries into my /etc/hosts file and pointed the link of the site along with others like facebook, etc. towards 0.0.0.0 in the hope of blocking them.

Actually it did work and almost all sites from youtube to facebook doesn't load in the browser.

But the thing is hacker news still loads, even after blocking it from the hosts file. What evil magic is this? Can it be fixed? Are there other work arounds to get the job done?

TLDR; How do I block Hacker News?

Hi guys, I'm a coder myself and at the moment I personally code on a laptop. (It is bulky, can't take it every where but it gets the job done.)

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys prefer to use to do your coding?

There's a wide variety of choices starting from Netbook, Notebook, Ultrabook, good old Desktop and some people even code on an Ipad!

Anyway, please state what you use to do your coding, why do you prefer to do it and how your experience is different or more efficient compared to coding on other systems already mentioned above?

I'm a programmer and I'm looking for some recommendations as to what type of Ultra-book I should buy for myself. I use Sabayon Linux (Gentoo based) and I would mainly use an ultra-book for programming and perhaps some light gaming.

I'm looking for hardware that is fully supported / compatible on Linux & I'm interested in hearing more about your suggestions.

Kindly note that I'm willing to make sacrifices regarding hardware incompatibilities with stuff like fingerprint reader, etc. as long as most stuff works fine on Linux.

Also I'm on a limited budget so I would prefer if the ultra-book doesn't come with a high price tag.
