For those non technical founders who got their product developed by contractors, any tips to share?

In tech we have several active companies (eg Buffer) that are quite transparent when it comes to revenues, costs, underlying processes etc

Does that exist in other industries, eg food etc? Or is it a peculiarity to software / tech

I'm planning to start a snack food company and would like to make everything transparent and opensource (formulations, manufacturing processes etc)

Would like any advice or feedback from those who are involved in the opensource.

Are there any concepts or methods that could translate from software?
