FAANG or Full stack devs from startups

For all our client and server interactions (APIS) - we are just using websockets. It is a gaming application.

Its a proof of concept used by close to ~50 people. The application feels snappy compared to say our previous REST API implementation. But of course we've not built for scale.

Now, we want to build a scalable version of it. Are there inherent limitations on why people aren't using websocket for APIs instead of REST APIs ?

We are an early stage startup (ramen profitable) and we keep getting approached by this late stage VC. This is the third time.

In every meeting they are like "Hey, really like what you are doing - what are your plans for next 3 months". Strangely, they never have their video turned on during these meetings. There is some overlap with their portfolio companies but these companies are too large & they should see no threat.

How best to deal with this ?
