What do top retention numbers look like in 2020 for top mobile apps?

Following the Google Maps April's fool and seeing the reaction around it, I feel the need to post about our app: Mobbles ( http://www.mobbles.com )

In a nutshell, it's Google Maps + Pokemon + tamagotchis

It's a real-life creature hunting. Once caught, you'll need to take care of your creatures (like Tamagotchis), you can then trade/fight them with your friends!

Some creatures are only catchable in Asia. Some creatures are only catchable in France. Some creatures are only catchable during full moon nights. Some creature are only catchable early in the morning. etc.

We've had some users tell us they go out at night and hunt! Or users actually putting their alarm clock early to catch this one Mobble! Some feedbacks are quite unbelievable sometimes, like someone crossing the whole city of LA to catch an exclusive Mobble we put around the convention center during E3.

HN is actually responsible for this game since we applied through our incubator (I/O venture) after sseing a link here.

Anyway, for those who are frustrated by Google's april fool, you should give Mobbles a try! Looking forward to your feedback!

I identified a problem that I have and want to solve it.

I have a hard time making sure I reply to every single email where a reply is needed. I tend not to reply emails when I'm programming and "in the zone", therefore I often have to wait before replying.

I'm using gmail. Does anyone have a technique/software/methodology to make sure I reply every single email on time ?

Since the Nexus S is equipped with NFC. I'm curious if anyone has fun/interesting ideas using this technology, other than payment/ticketing. I'm thinking about how to use those smart tags. The functionality is quite similar to QR Codes, except that the user experience is completely different and way more instinctive, and the content on NFC smart tags can be modified.

I know there must be obvious use cases that I'm missing. In any case I'm interested to know if you have thought of interesting ones.

Hi,<p>Here is the deal I'm confronted to :<p>- Start my own startup : I have 5K in the bank, a cofounder from school I have worked with with who i'm confident I can build something great with. We don't have a solid idea of a product we both feel passionate enough to devote ourselves fulltime, but then again I keep reading it's not about the idea but about the execution, then should having an idea matter at that point ?<p>OR<p>- Work for a startup : its an early stage company ( 3 months ), they are 10 people, they have investors ( raised 400K in just 3 months ), they already have clients and contracts. They're working on a cool technology ( mobile payments ) that's not you typicall 2.0 webapp. The CEO already created a successful international tech company ( I had dinner with the CEO after I met him at a networking event, just to say I could have good interactions with him )<p>I feel like working for this startup would teach me about how some real business is done and let me identify possible opportunities for me to create a business later ( in an industry with more barriers to entry ).<p>But on the other hands, I keep hearing "Start now !", "There is not perfect timing, just do it ! now !" etc. They tell me I'll get used to the paycheck at the end of each month, I'll get too comfortable etc. But I also feel like if I do something now it will be another webapp or something without any real barrier to entry ( other than great coding, which I'm confident I can do ).<p>I'm asking HNers : when do you feel that the timing is right when you want to create a startup ? I'm asking the HN community because I'm about to graduate ( in September ), and I got an offer from quite a successful startup ( about 120-150 people now ). The pay is good and the people I'll be working with are definitely smart. I'm just wondering if this will actually helps me with my plan which is starting my own startup eventually. Should I start it up right after school and decline job offers ( which means living at my parents since I don't have cash in the bank ) ? What about doing consulting/freelance work on the side and starting building the product in the same time ? If any of you has an advice about what elements should I base my decision on, that would be really helpful.

Hi everyone, I'd like to know if anyone has worked on QR Codes before. I have a product idea that ideally I'd like to turn into a startup and it involves QR Codes read by mobile phones. I'd like to know if anyone has hit a wall with this technology or any issue I should be aware of. On my HTC Desire, reading QR Codes works perfectly but I'm not sure the experience is as smooth on other devices ( I target Android/Blackberry/iPhones mainly ). I'm also not sure about people's perception of this technology. Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious if anyone on Hackernews is working around NFC (Near Field Communication )/contactless technology. I don't see many posts about NFC, which it's quite surprising because that's a pretty fun technology to hack around.

I interned at a startup where they were betting on NFC's rapid growth, but it isn't happening yet. I'd like to know your thoughts about NFC's possible future.

I'm currently finishing my Computer Science degree. Lately there was a carreer fair at my university, apparently lots of consulting firms ( accenture / deloitte / etc ) seem to be interested in hiring Comp Sci grads. I talked with them but I'd like to get some feedback from HNers. Personally it seems that I love writing -good- code too much to work for them, but then again it's just my general feeling, I might be completely wrong. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi everybody, I was wondering what do you guys think about cloning a US startup for a european market ?

There is this american startup that has a great product, but there isn't any equivalent in my country ( France ). I'm thinking about cloning it because I felt in love with the product and think it could be a success in my country. Originally I didn't want to "clone" any product, but seeing this one really made me want to develop it. Anyone has done it before ? What are the different things to consider before starting such a project ? Would it be viewed as "bad" to do such a thing ?
