As much as I agree with the general distaste for Jira on HN, I suspect there are many folks that have no choice but to use it. I'm interested to hear whether there are any Jira patterns/workflows that have been found to be useful (or at the very least not absolutely terrible).

I'm primarily thinking from the perspective of a software engineer (code contributions as well as organisation/planning) but other use cases would be interesting to hear about as well.
