I want to make a personal website for myself that would potentially have a blog, resume, projects, etc on it and I was wondering what is a good idea to put on the site and what isn't such a good idea?

Others have told me not to put my resume up because it won't really be useful at all. I also have concerns with what an employer might think when he/she looks at the blog and whether its a good idea to mix the two?

Advice on this issue in general is appreciated!

Keep in mind I'm a sophomore in College studying CS. I was hoping a project like making a personal website would be cool and look good also.

I'm a compSci major at a good compSci school, and while I've been taking classes and going through the motions of being a student, I feel like technically, I don't know very much.

I know Java from what we do in class, but that's about it. I feel like I can't really create a product or provide valuable skills/service from what I am learning in school.

How can I change this, and what tips, advice, etc would you give to someone like me? Is this normal? Can someone who has gotten a CS degree elaborate on this?

Also, why don't CS degrees teach you much technical skills? Seems more theory than anything else!

I need to finish this program by tomorrow and I've spent DAYS trying to understand it, and the instructor isn't particularly helpful. I understand the things like sockets and threads but I don't know how to put these together to make such a program. I've gotten some progress but I don't even know if it's right.

Please help me out, I don't know who else to turn to!
