Ask HN: Future of Technical Interviews

We had solutions to Leetcode problems before LLMs, I don't see what's changed.

If your concern is about the value/signal of such an interview, it's the same as before regardless of how high or low you think it is.

If your concern is about cheating, without LLMs people can and sometimes do cheat in remote interviews but can't really do it in-person. Sure LLMs give you another method for cheating, I don't think that's enough to expect some huge paradigm shift in interviews.

If I’m hiring someone I want someone who can think for themselves oh and has actual fucking domain knowledge. Not one of your zero to hero bootcamp course graduates. Someone with a genuine interest and can think and is passionate about their job will always be welcomed to the firm for me. I’ve interviewed some absolutely fucking shocking people in high profile jobs clearly wanting to move before they get found out. What makes you think this will change? If someone doesn’t know what to ask ChatGPT about cloud for example then they won’t know. Full stop.

Last week there was an 'Ask HN' by somebody who wants to AI-automate the phone interviews, too. So it might be AI assisted on every step of the process.

Some certification already requires you do switch on your webcam, even walk with a camera around the room to check that nobody else is in the room. That might become more common.
