Ask HN: What is your checking before buying a new domain?

How significant is the domain name in 2023? I mean, most hits will come via search anyway, and recommendations via shared links.

I enjoyed the lists though. Like wandering through a graveyard.

I bought 2 this month.

The problem is once I buy the domain, I slowly start losing interest in it. I am thinking of setting some kind of rule or checking that if I have MVP ready with some alpha users, then only I will go & buy.

Is it over my 6 character limit for a new domain (including tld)? I always try to keep my domains short.
