Ask HN: Any tools to make presentations like “The Secret Lives of Data”?

Are there any existing resources for creating animated presentations like that with relatively little effort compared to just forking this project and hardcoding all nodes and interactions for each part like it seems they did here?

I've seen concise notations for generating simple protocol diagrams and thought I'd test my luck in case it's possible to do an animated demonstration like this without the verbosity that a fork of that exact project would entail.
