I had similar problems with Linux. This is why I have now a rather long textfile in a dropbox folder in which I write down all problems/solution/tweaks I had to deal with. If the same thing pops up again after half a year I can just look it up.

Great idea. I keep a folder full of Markdown files that I push to a Bitbucket wiki.
