Ask HN: Coming to San Francisco - what to do, who to meet.

I'm arriving in San Francisco at the end of October for a couple of weeks, in preparation for navigating the US immigration system.

I'm a developer of 11 years, and head up a team of PHP Developers at an advertising agency at the moment, and my girlfriend and I are scoping the Bay as a place to move to. We'd have to apply for H-1B visas, gulp.

So, I was wondering where I should go are and who I should meet with. I'm hoping to arrange a couple of cups of coffee with some people. Any advice would be appreciated.
