We are absolutely
not doing our best to resist him.
Half of us are gung-ho for him. The other half are not turning out in the streets, or seizing control of the microphones in Congress, or having a general strike.
We don't do that because it wouldn't be very effective. They'd just call us "rioters", throw us in jail, and carry on as before. We've been utterly ineffective at changing the minds of that first half for decades, and we're ineffective now.
Maybe we'll be able to change something come November, though I'm not hearing any great plans for dealing with the problem then. Even in the best case, the majority will not be overwhelming, and we'll be left with the same gridlock.
Other nations would be foolish to wait for us to come to our senses. This is who we are, collectively, as a nation. Half of us may not like that, but that's not anybody's problem but ours.
