The race is real, the destination is fake.In other words, the industry players and their financiers are locked in competition within a self perpetuating feedback loop without any exit to "success".
Nvidia builds hardware that OpenAI buys. But OpenAI struggles to do this because they're actually losing money.
So in a stroke of brilliance to keep the loop going, Nvidia invests in OpenAI (or at least says they're considering it) which encourages others to do the same for fear of missing out on some of the wild success that Nvidia is having.
And the wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round --- for now.
