I'm in the UK and have one child. We were the first in our school friends and the second in our respective groups of University friends. I was 31 and my wife was 30.
It's probably no great shock that employment wise we had stable and (relatively) well paid jobs, and live in an area of low cost of housing. Even with that, the cost of childcare is absolutely huge, nearly as much as the cost of our mortgage for one child! And that is with the government subsidy of 30 free hours that kicked in at the time my son started nursery. Our friends with less stable jobs / less secure housing / undersized housing for a family are not even thinking about kids.
