I think it's just mindless, and not in service of any kind of plan.
But that's really unsatisfying, so there's a strong temptation to think there's a plan and look for one. Sort of like the situations that lead to conspiracy theories.
100% agree! When I say or think what I said above I do tend to feel like a conspiracy nut, which isn't typical. It's just hard not to just think they're all evil at this point but you're surely correct that it's just mindless stuff that causes the numbers to go up and they like that. (Like the other response said)
