People always prefer convenience over other things. The whole privacy conversation got to the forefront starting with Edward Snowden, all the way upto Cambridge Analytica.
If you look at technology innovation happening during that time (2012-2022), much of that was in the infrastructure and (early) machine learning space. Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud, and later Tensorflow, pytorch etc.
The important note here is none of that impacted end-users directly.
Enter ChatGPT and LLMs.
User lives have profoundly changed since the introduction of those tools, and it is reasonable that privacy takes a backseat in service of those.
