Since no information is gained between one's first choice and the second, I see no advantage in changing.

In that sense, this problem differs from the Monty Hall problem, wherein new information is revealed between the first and second choice.

Well yeah, this is just supposed to be a paradox where you break down the flaw in the way the problem is presented. Recognizing that there is a flaw isn't the point.
