This is a great idea for exploring new music. Lately I have had trouble doing that with Spotify -- too much I've already heard, or just stuff that's too mainstream/bland.

It’s an algorithm loop. Here the popular song you might like. Oh, you are listening to those songs so here more of it. There’s millions of songs on the service, but I have the feeling mine is only 1000 or so.

Any one have good suggestions for music exploration on Spotify?

I made a random playlist generator for Spotify that truly gives back stuff you’ve never heard. I recommend removing the playlist from your taste profile and put on smart shuffle. Regenerate as many times as want. Open to suggestions/features as well.

It says daily but the auto generation feature is not enabled yet.

What works for me sometimes is to search for other people's playlists by using the keyword of a genre or a particular mood I'm after. Filter out the Spotify-generated ones of course. Usually after 20 results you start getting to the good stuff.

Also I've had some success doing collaborative playlists with random friends / acquaintances. A song I added would give them an idea for a song, and we take turns that way. A lot of it is rubbish, though. :-)

What would work even better is if Spotify had a way to search playlists containing a specific song!

what's worked for me is using apple music, I find their playlists to be better and exploration feels more structured too.

What we really need is shared playlists so you can listen to the same things as your friends, but even when you're not hanging out

Spotify has this feature already, it's called "Blend"

Blend recommends songs which you both would like, but it's not a shared queue to listen to music at the same time. Love the feature tho
