I presume you are right that the previous article was flagged, but today's article was also killed by flags. Unless there was a dupe, it was flagged and dead when I found it on hckrnews.com. I "vouched" for it to bring it back alive because I thought it was a solid article that was worthy of discussion.

As to why it was flagged, it's always hard to say. A combination of people who think it's a hit piece, those who think it's too accepting of porn in general, and those who think it's simply inappropriate for a work oriented tech site. And possibly some people who simply don't want to see evidence that this particular problem exists.

I vouched for it because I think it's good for porn consumers to contemplate whether their behavior is enabling abusers like the one described here. If you are going to watch porn, at least choose performers who are clearly happy to be doing what they are doing and thus less likely to be forced to do so against their will!

Showdead is already on but there's no discussion option on some dead articles.

For those articles, the full set of options is:

Hmm. You are right that there is no ability to add a comment to an article once it's dead, but you should be able to view all the comments that are there. If I recall correctly, this one had about 15 upvotes but no comments when I vouched for it. I'm wondering you looked at it just before this. If this was the case, you're right that you weren't able to see any comments, but this isn't because it was flagged, but because there weren't any comments to see yet.

Here's a sample article to test on: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42549691. It's flagged dead, but has two comments that I see when I follow the link. The dead Reuters had a bunch of upvotes and I assumed it had comments. But with no way in, I couldn't be sure.

It’s also possible that there was a duplicate post of OP, which would explain the ambiguity as well. My point was not to exclude any flagged post of OP, or to say that one is more deserving of not being flagged than the other, as I agree with you that the entire OF series that Reuters has been running is worth reading and any or all of them belong on HN, imo. I also have vouched for both posts. Thanks to you and others who have used to moderation functions available to them to help (re)surface these worthwhile posts.
