I created HEVCut, an iOS app that helps save iCloud storage by compressing videos into HEVC format with optimized metadata. It’s a straightforward solution for reducing video file sizes significantly (up to 50% or more), which speeds up load times and keeps quality high. I built it after struggling to manage my iCloud storage, especially with videos, and wanted something that didn’t rely on complex settings or third-party cloud services.
How It Works: HEVCut performs local re-encoding to HEVC (H.265) while optimizing metadata. By default, it reduces resolution to Full HD for even smaller sizes, but you can adjust settings to maintain the original resolution. This local processing reduces storage usage and improves video loading without sacrificing quality.
