Because the ban here is on the sale not on the registration of imei's. So these phones are still coming in they are still getting registered they are just getting the heavy tax that is applied on an import and locals are still buying them with money that many of them don't have and could better be spent on other life improvements. Indonesia should be focusing on reducing the amount of corruption that they have in their government, decreasing the costs for items like this, and then encouraging businesses to invest and build locally.
The amount of bribes that it takes for a business to set itself up in Indonesia to fulfill this requirement is ridiculous. Indonesia was making efforts to reduce the amount of corruption but with this current president that trend has been totally reversed. The level of corruption , not only that it affects companies trying to do business but also for a locals just trying to avail themselves of basic government services is insane.
Indonesia has minimum wage laws in place across to their country, but why are they never enforced? It's simple to find people who are not being paid the minimum wage. No one in the government cares. Indonesia has one of the broadest and most complete universal health Care systems, why is it that healthcare is such a problem for the average person in indonesia? Don't worry this policy is going to fix everything because it's all the fault of offshore manufacturing.
