Agree that we don’t need to add a layer of obfuscation but this seems to be a way to reduce telemetry captured by Reddit.

Yeah. More directly, their IP blocking has been ramping up. Any of the official domains are inaccessible for me without a proxy these days. I'd post the canonical link if I could access it.
