Ask HN:iOS6 maps app, will apple open a directions API?

I wasn't following WWDC closely, and I was wondering if they mentioned something about opening any maps related API's (specifically directions).

I was working on a project a while ago that used Google Directions API, and I did not like their premium model (since I wanted to distribute the app for free).

Now if Apple opens their own directions API I would like to pick up where I left off:)..
