DOJ might get involved because obviously there is money missing. Question is, was it stolen or just burned by expenses and Synapse was raiding customer funds for day to day operations.

Burned by expenses might be "Company did something wrong, let's fine the company.... oh wait, they are already bankrupt."

Stolen obviously means criminal charges.
