That has what to do with the (large) means of production being owned by the state? When people had a chance they opted for capitalism, if that's what you mean.

It doesn't occur to you that a nation being oppressed by a foreign puppet regime against the will of its citizens, will do poorly economically?

To you, it's the central planning and state ownership that causes economic collapse?

Not sure "foreign puppet regime" really characterises, for example, the late GDR's government properly.

Anyway, yes, the state run economy was doing poorly (especially compared to small capitalist bits).
