Ask HN: Is anyone working on AI art critique?

I hear a lot of worry lately that AI is in danger of taking away a meaningful activity -- creating art -- from humans. But I'm convinced there must be a possible future where the actual impact of AI on art is similar to its impact on chess: We use AI to improve our own skills, and the activity gets more popular, not less.

One way I can imagine this happening is if AI learns to be a good critic, giving us helpful feedback on the art we create. Is anyone working on anything like this?

To be a critic you need to have a point of view.

Nailed it! Imagine an artist being "schooled" by an AI about the originality, expressiveness, emotional depth and subtly of execution of their art. Ughh. Thanks but no thanks.

Could AI be a useful tool for artists? Maybe. It could be useful for idea generation, of course. As for art analysis, AI might be useful for an artist to ask similar works i.e. "show me paintings in XYZ style with a similar color scheme" or "I'm having trouble w/ this perspective on the main subject. Where are my angles and proportions the most inaccurate?"
