I couldn’t believe that these were named after the Bohemian bacteriologist Hans-Otto Snottite.

Sounds more like a Dungeons and Dragons monster than a real thing. Roll to avoid an acid-based critical hit, or something.

The associated cave, Cueva de Villa Luz [1] wouldn't feel out of place in any decent DnD campaign either.
